Today we are publishing the first release of the All-New “VMware Cloud Offerings” comparison on WhatMatrix. Thanks to Category Consultant Graham Barker from VirtualG.uk for tackling this super-relevant topic. Open the Comparison
Included Offerings
The current comparison evaluates the leading 3 offerings in this space:
- VMware Cloud on AWS
- VMware Cloud on IBM
- Rackspace Private Cloud powered by VMware
VMware has partnered with the above vendors to provide automated deployments of VMware environments on top of public cloud platforms, whether for new workloads or expansion of existing environments (hybrid models). This approach attempts to combine the “best of both worlds”, creating standard VMware infrastructures (with certain levels of isolation) on top of the public cloud Platforms. The public cloud enables scale, global availability and standard security / compliance for these infrastructures, while standard VMware management approaches apply and customers can continue to use their existing VMware skills and assets to operate them.
Explore the alternatives – we welcome feedback!
There are significant differences in the offerings and while the AWS offering has the largest mind-share (being hosted on the leading public cloud platform) it is worth exploring the alternatives, whether you are after Rackspace’s “fanatical support” or could benefit from the “root-level” access the IBM solution provides.
This is the first release of this community comparison – we’d appreciate your feedback, whether you’d like us to add another offering or you disagree with an evaluation – just comment here or get in touch!
