Zerto provides two failover options:
- Test Failover
- Live Failover
A Test Failover creates virtual machines in a sandbox, using the test network specified in the Virtual Protection Group (VPG) definition, as opposed to creating virtual machines in a production network. All data changes that are performed during the Test Failover are written to separate scratch volumes. These scratch volumes reside on the storage defined for the journal.
During a Test Failover any changes to the protected virtual machines at the protected site are still sent to the recovery site and new checkpoints continue to be generated throughout the failover test.
