Nutanix calls this feature Metro Availability. The solution is bi-directionally active/passive in nature. What this means is, that active containers can exist on both sites, each with a passive mirror in the other site.
Metro Availability and synchronous replication are supported across different hardware vendors (NX, Dell, or Lenovo) from AOS 5.1 onwards. Note that mixing of nodes from different vendors in the same cluster are not supported (for example, not supported: NX and non-NX, Dell and non-Dell, Lenovo and non-Lenovo, Cisco UCS and non-Cisco UCS, and so on.) Asynchronous replication across different hardware vendors continues to be supported.
Data is compressed during data transfers.
Although Nutanix has been claiming VMware vSphere Metro Storage Cluster (vMSC) support since NOS 4.1, it is not officialy listed as such in the online VMware Storage Compatibility Guide. According to Nutanix no certification program is open for vMSC, so no new vendors are allowed to join.
Stretched Cluster is only available in the Ultimate edition and can be purchased as an add-on license for the Pro edition.
