Nutanix provides the option to enable Microsoft VSS integration when configuring a backup policy. This ensures application-consistent backups are created for MS Exchange and MS SQL database environments.
AOS 5.9 introduced Application-Consistent Snapshot Support for NearSync DR.
AOS 5.11 introduces support for Nutanix Guest Tools (NGT) in VMware ESXi environments next to native AHV environments. This allows for the use of native Nutanix Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) instead of Microsofts VSS inside Windows Guest VMs. The Nutanix VSS hardware provider enables integration with native Nutanix data protection. The provider allows for application-consistent, VSS-based snapshots when using Nutanix protection domains. The Nunatix Guest Tools CLI (ngtcli) can also be used to execute the Nutanix Self-Service Restore CLI.
