Nutanix was founded early 2009 and began to ship its first Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI) solution, Virtual Computing Platform (VCP), in 2011. The core of the Nutanix solution is the Nutanix Operating System (NOS). In 2015 Nutanix rebranded its solution to Xtreme Computing Platform (XCP), mainly because Nutanix developed its own hypervisor, Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV), that is based on KVM. In 2015 Nutanix also rebranded its operating system to Acropolis (AOS). In 2016 Nutanix rebranded its solution to Enterprise Cloud Platform (ECP). In september 2018 Nutanix rebranded Acropolis File Services (AFS) to Nutanix Files, Acropolis Block Services (ABS) to Nutanix Volumes, Object Storage Services to Nutanix Buckets and Xi Cloud DR Services to Nutanix Leap.
At the end of October 2020 the company had a customer install base of approximaltely 18,000 customers worldwide and there were more than 6,100 employees working for Nutanix.
