Details
Storage+Compute: Existing Nutanix clusters can be expanded by adding additional Nutanix nodes, which adds additional compute and storage resources to the shared pool.

Compute-only: Because Nutanix leverages file-level protocols (NFS/SMB), storage can be presented to hypervisor hosts not participating in the Nutanix cluster. This is also beneficial to migrations, since it allows for online storage vMotions between Nutanix and non-Nutanix storage platforms.

Storage-only: Any Nutanix appliance model can be designated as a storage-only node. The storage-only node is part of the Nutanix storage cluster but does not actively participate in the hypervisor cluster. The storage-only node is always installed with AHV, which economizes on vSphere and/or Hyper-V licenses.

AOS 5.10 introduces the ability to add a never-schedulable node if you want to add a node to increase data storage on a Nutanix AHV cluster, but do not want any VMs to run on that node. In this way compliance and licensing requirements of virtual applications that have a physical CPU socket-based licensing model, can be met when scaling out a Nutanix AVH cluster.
