Details
Nutanix currently supports 4 major hypervisor platforms where many others support only 1 or 2. Nutanix offers its own hypervisor called Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV), which is based on Linux KVM. Using different hypervisors and or hypervisor-clusters within the same Nutanix cluster is supported.
Nutanix has official support for Microsoft Cloud Platform System (CPS), which bundles Windows Server 2012 R2, System Center 2012 R2 and Windows Azure Pack for easier hybrid cloud configuration. Nutanix offers the CPS Standard version pre-installed on nodes.
*Hyper-V 2016 is not supported on NX platform nodes with IvyBridge or SandyBridge processors (motherboard designator starts with X9). Hyper-V 2016 requires G5 hardware and is not supported on G3 and G4 hardware.
**Citrix Hypervisor 8.x is not supported on Nutanix server nodes by Citrix.
AOS 5.1 introduced general availability (GA) support for the Citrix XenServer hypervisor for use with XenApp and XenDesktop in Nutanix clusters.
AOS 5.2 exclusively introduced general availability (GA) support for the AHV hypervisor for use on IBM Power Systems. Only Linux is currently supported as Guest OS.
AOS 5.5 introduced support for Microsoft Hyper-V 2016 and provides 1-click non-disruptive upgrades from Hyper-V 2012 R2. AOS 5.5 also introduces support for virtual hard disks (.vhdx) that are 2 TB or greater in size in Hyper-V clusters.
AOS 5.17 introduces support for Microsoft Hyper-V 2019.
